Style customization concept - Lance

提案/Suggestion

I have a style customization concept in mind and I really need to share it. This style customization is about the Lance, and would offer a more “aggressive” approach.

The name is: “Piston Impact

  • Passive: Revenge Guard
Revenge guard is a gauge meter that can be filled by blocking attack or causing damage (like Switch Axe). Perfectly Blocking attacks fills the most out of all the other options. Once the gauge reaches 70% capacity, the gauge glows yellow, indicating to the player it can be used for a specific action.
All of the other actions from the normal lance can be performed normally and will fill up the gauge meter.

  • Guard-Thrust + [The Downward flick is held]: Piston-Thrust
When Piston-Thrust is performed, the lance contracts the piston-like mechanism of the lance and upon release, the lance is thrusted into the monster, and then the top of the lance is injected onto the monster like a giant spring-loaded needle. If the block is perfectly timed, the damage from the Piston-Thrust will be higher than normal. If the action is still held, any weak attacks will be blocked by default, but stronger attacks will cancel the Piston-Thrust in exchange for a lower amount of damage received. There is 4 levels of charge depending on how long you hold (if there isn’t enough meter for a level, it cannot be charged to said level except level 1):

    • Level 1: Fast but a bit weak. Causes no recoil. Use a weak amount of meter from the gauge.
    • Level 2: A bit slower, stronger and uses more gauge meter. Causes a bit of recoil.
    • Level 3: Use more gauge meter for bigger damage. The pressure of this attack is so strong it causes the attack to become a three-hit attack instead of two. One for the initial hit, two for the piston thrust, and three for a pressure explosion. The explosion is always, no matter what, 30% weaker than the piston thrust. The recoil is much greater.
    • Level 4: Uses exactly 70% of the gauge and takes 3 seconds to transition from level 3 to 4 (using Focus changes that). This is the same as level 3, but it becomes a two-hit attack instead and has a long windup. The piston thrust and the pressure explosion fuses together to form a spectacular explosion causing enormous damage and recoil (make it so that it does the a hit-stun delay and a little “ping” sound effect like the parry from the game “ULTRAKILL”, simply for pure aesthetics and unadulterated badassery). The action performed during the hit-stun gives invincibility for the duration of the contact and the explosion, but after the action is done, the hunter has difficulty to get up (Firm Foothold reduces the recoil for level 2 to level 4).
  • Thrust + [Cancel Thrust action + Tap]: Piston Bash Followup
Follow up a Thrust attack with a Piston-Thrust of level 2 (all the same conditions are applied) and it cannot be charged. However, cancelling the Thrust too early will cause the hunter to slow down too abruptly, causing some slipping.

  • Advancing Jump Thrust + Downwards flick: Skyward Piston Followup
Performs a level 2 Piston-Thrust in the air. However, like the Piston Bash Followup, if this action is done too early, the hunter will lose balance after landing on the ground.

  • Guard Dash + [The Sideways flick is held]: Piston Dash Followup
Use a Piston-Thrust instead of the usual 3 hit combo at the end of Guard Dash. Performing a Piston Dash Followup without blocking anything will decrease the damage of the Piston-Thrust by 20%. A successful guard will do normal amount of damage. Perfect blocking however will increase the damage by 10%. The Piston Dash Followup can be charged from level 1 to 3 only.

  • Perfect dodge + [Held after the followup]: Revenge Thrust
Causes to use a level 2 Piston-Thrust on the spot, but can be charged all the way to level 4 (Agressive Dodger affects all hits within the Piston-Thrust).

  • Special skill: Dash Attack
Just like the Dash Attack, it does a strong version of the Thrust, except that it finishes with a FORCED Piston-Thrust, which means that the final hit will is pushed so hard that the lance mechanism is forced to be into the Piston-Thrust position. The animation is the one for level 4 with the damage of the level 3, just for visual effects.

  • CONDITIONED Special skill: Gear Buster
During the long windup of the level 4 Piston-Thrust, if the special skill is used, the Piston-Thrust now becomes a level 5 charge. The reason being that the pressure is so extreme that the pressure becomes flamboyant and causes the hunter to be YEETED from his position (uses the shield to catch himself from going to far, like Captain America :D). Using this Special skill unfortunately makes the bar empty and unable to be filled for 20 seconds.

  • To introduce this new style customization, I think that adding Riftborn Rathalos, Banbaro and for the star of this event Riftborn Legiana would be perfect.

  • To balance the weapon a little more, the weapon must be a bit nerfed:

    • Reducing the overall damage of the base moveset.

    • Receiving too much damage when blocking drains meter.

    • Getting damaged critically drains the meter gauge.

    • Falling in battle drains the totality of the gauge meter.

    • Getting caught in the monster’s roar drains the gauge by 15%.

    • Missing the Piston-Thrust makes the hunter recoil forwards (Firm Foothold can affect the intensity).

    • Piston-Thrust is not always guaranteed.

    • Cannot Guard-Thrust roars as easily (Earplugs can have effect on it however).

    • The pressure explosions from a level 3 Piston-Thrust cannot deal status effect.

  • Here are also some skills that could affect the weapon:

    • Focus: reduces the charge time of Piston-Thrust. Level 4 Focus allows to reduce the charge time of the gauge meter of 10%. 15% for level 5.
    • Firm Foothold: reduced recoil from strong attacks dealt.
    • Guard: (Obviously) reduced knockback and damage taken from monsters.
    • (NEW) Agressive Guard (up to 5 levels): Once an attack is perfectly guarded, the next attack is increased by a certain percentage (base yourself from Agressive Dodger. Unlike Agressive Dodger although, the damage percentage increase does not decrease even if the attack isn’t directly followed up right after the guard. If Agressive Dodger is also equipped, they still both can be used. I will let you the freedom to choose how the damage increase works, surprise me). Also note that this skill does not cancel damage entirely like a perfect evade does.
    • (NEW) Extra coating (up to 3 levels): Puts an extra layer of status effect onto sharp edges.
      • Level 1: Decreases affinity by 5% in exchange for increasing the likelihood of landing status effect by 10% for slashing and piercing attacks.
      • Level 2: Decreases affinity by 15% in exchange for increasing the likelihood of landing status effect by 20% for slashing and piercing attacks.
      • Level 3: Decreases affinity by 20% in exchange for increasing the likelihood of landing status effect by 30% for slashing and piercing attacks.
      • List of the included attacks:
        • All of Sword & Shield’s slashing moves (not the blunt attacks).
        • All of Great-Sword’s slashing attacks (some blunt attacks are rarely seen, but are excluded nonetheless).
        • All of Dual-Blades attacks (for now).
        • All of Longsword’s attacks (no exceptions).
        • All of Lance’s piercing/slashing attacks (including the style customization).
        • All of Gunlance’s slashing and thrusting (Wyrmstake DOES NOT count, else it would be way to OP).
        • All of Charge Blade’s slashing attacks (phials does not count).
        • All of Switch Axe’s attacks (for now).
        • All of Bow’s piercing arrows (other variants don’t work).
        • None for Hammer.
        • None for Hunting Horn.
        • None for Light Bowgun.
        • None for Heavy Bowgun.

I really hope that this concept will be used for the future of the game, because it would be AWESOME to see it true.
Cordially,
