Rathalos bite attack can hit players near both its head and its tail, which is not the case in verison before V92. The monster is using a bite attach and it should only hit players near its head.

Thank you for your report and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.

Would you mind letting us know the following information as we would like to investigate further?

Thank you for your understanding.

This is incorrect. Rathalos tail can also damage you when it does its bite attack since a long time ago. The hitbox is just quite precise, so unless you’re just nice at the tip of its tail as its tail moves when it does its bite attack, most people won’t notice that it’s there.

Source: I learned it the hard way since like a year ago, when I evaded too much due to evade extender and reached the tail hitbox during the bite attack. I had the same reaction as you, and was told that it’s been there since the beginning.

Maybe because i m not a tail cutter until recently. But i want to know your view, do you think the tail should also has a hitbox? Personally i think it is illogical.

You can see that the player performed a perfect evade which mean the tail actually hit the player when the monster was performing bite attack.

Hmm… Have you played the main Monster Hunter games before this?

I cannot remember specifically about the modern version of Rathalos (my last MH was on PSP), but a brief search on the Internet tells me that it is normal for monsters to deal damage with various parts of its body even when the main action was to attack with another body part.

This is “normal” to me, because they are monsters after all and this series goes into great detail on monster design and the hunting process design. Suspending the disbelief that we can even have the strength to withstand an attack from a monster weighing hundreds, if not thousands, of kg more than us, the rest of the hunter–monster interaction are faily on point, and puts us players in the reality that this game is about hunting monsters, not about numbers vs numbers (like most Action or RPG games are, where hitboxes don’t matter and the only thing that matters is just HP, MP, skill activation, and RNG).

They have toned down the b*llshit that the monsters can do in this game… Like Paolumu is actually much faster in World than in Now. So that tail hit from Rathalos during bite action is… really nothing much. To me, at least.

Addendum: If anything, I enjoyed this series a lot because it forced me to watch the body language of the monster very closely. I usually play without damage numbers as well (there was no such thing in the earlier games), so everything was by observation and experience. If I see something that looks suspiciously dangerous, I will be wary against it until proven otherwise.

Well, i think if the monster can hit player with its tail when doing a bite attack, then its wings should also hit other players if it touch them. Right now, it is not every moving parts has a hitbox and you have to remember or guess.

Yes. “Guess” comes first, then experience it and it becomes a memory. A painful one. Then repeated exposure becomes an instinct. That’s the typical progression of an MH player. If you watched those 10-star solo hunts where the player seemingly cleared the monster with ease, that’s because they have reached the “instinct” stage through many repeated exposure until they don’t even need to think about it.

I know this can be frustrating at first, but if anything, the general ruleset of “guessing” whether something can deal damage to you or not is (by my own observation, not a general-general rule), in no particular order:

  1. Is the part touching you known to be a source of damage in any other attacks?
  2. Is the monster shoving its body wait on you or flailing something at you?
  3. Does the monster’s motion look like it could cause damage because of physics (e.g. counterweight)?

I carry this mindset when observing the monster to see which parts are likely to be dangerous and I die finding out, then I learn how to stop dying from them. :joy:

(Addendum: it’s one reason why I like lance, because it gives me some margin of safety to learn when a motion is an attack and when it is not.)

Thank you for providing us a video.

We have shared your message with the development team to see if this is intended. If there is any additional information we can share on this, we’ll do so on this Forum.

Do feel free to post on the Forum if you’ve noticed anything else.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

aren’t you one of the 10s solo hunter? :joy:

I’m not as… “invested” as the really dedicated ones :joy::joy::joy: I wish I can find more time to play this game, but I can’t.

Took me a long time just to clear the 9-star Magna UQ with Pukei Bow, while the player that I’m referring to their video for tips made it look like it’s just another regular hunt :joy: totally different level!

do you have time for MH Wilds?

I intend to make some time for it! Will be less active in MHNow and reserve it for when commuting. Are you in the SG Telegram group for MHNow?

yeah, I am in TNE, WGS888 but only hunted together once
you are in TMNT?

Nope~ I’m in the main one for the whole SG. Can search for “SG Monster Hunter Now” group in Telegram and you should see us.

I see, I didn’t join the big group, too big, will always have notifications

Haha you can always mute the notifications for the group. Only check when you want to. I do the same. Anyways, let’s get off this topic before we get reported for being off-topic :joy:

I cannot stand seeing the “unread” numbers keep increasing haha
