When you use ‘lock-on’ ability with dual blades on the tail of an astalos, your attacks do not get redirected towards the tail. Instead you keep targeting the body.
Even when you are positioned behind the monster, your attacks get directed towards the main body and any tail hit you make is more of casuality than purpose.
その他の情報/Other Information
If you use the spiral slash style attack it will go straigh to the body regrdless of which part you are targeting. This is specific with Astalos.

Thank you for reporting.
For further investigation, could you share videoclip?
I learned to record videos on my phone and this is the best shot and more compressed video I managed (BTW, I did not find a guide for video uploads here in the forums if it exists) you can see:
1-Even when targeting the tail (normal and demon mode), you are always directed to the body if you get close
2-You see well the specials kill becuase the mon turned, but you can notice it was going to target the body too instead of starting at the tail

Thank you for video clip.
When the locked-on part moves off-screen, movements like this is intended.
If you notice anything else, feel free to reaching us anytime.
This behaviour has been there since day 1 and is not unique to Astalos. If the Hunter is closer to the body than the targeted body part—relative to the center of the monster—the Hunter will always face the main body instead of the targeted body part, leaving the targeted body part behind you.
You either have to step back out so that the targeted body part is in front of you when facing the main body, or switch to gyro and manually turn around to attack backwards (this is what I do).
But I believe they have adjusted the hitbox on the tail so that you should still be dealing damage to the tail part even if the Hunter isn’t attacking the tail end, but if you want to leverage the weak spot on the tail end, you’ll have to adjust your position/orientation accordingly.
I am not in the forced mega zoom in mode. I cant stand having the camera on closeup all the time. And I have not noticed this behavior in other mons. Also , when you jump for the aereal drill attack of the double swords syle, the camera does a zoom out and even then the body is the area targetted,
¿Am I still at least making damage to the tail as it’s the target in lock-on?
