This time, I observed the following:
- I saw a 7-star Great Jagras on the map while alighting at a train station. My game was coming out of high-speed restriction as my movement speed slowed.
- Shortly, I observe that it disappeared from the field while at the same time a new monster was marked—a 7-star Diablos, in the exact spot where the 7-star Great Jagras was.
- Within seconds, the 7-star Great Jagras re-appeared in that spot.
I’m not sure if this is related to the random appearance/disappearance of large monsters on the field, but I hope this helps to narrow down the root cause.

Another observation, which is a repeat of the one I reported a few months back with the sudden appearance of a fresh Rathalos:
- I hunted 2 large monsters within my access range, nothing else were in range.
- I kept the game running and just point my phone down and I was walking towards the train station. My Battery Saver and Vibration settings were enabled.
- Almost immediately, my phone vibrated, as if I entered the range of a large monster or a large gathering point.
- I raised my phone to see what caused the vibration—it was a new Great Jagras, and it was next to the previous monster I just slain. However, the field was expressly clear of large monster, so this Great Jagras is a new spawn that appeared only after I pointed my phone downwards and triggered the game’s screensaver. I launched the game after 9pm, so it was not a matter of hourly spawn, since that has already taken place before I even launched the game.
Additional note: I just checked, and I saw that my Palico marked a Banbaro right where the fresh Great Jagras was at on the field location.
Looks like the root cause is related to the codes governing the marking of large monsters by the Palico.
