Hello,
I’ve been playing MH Now for about a month now (basically a newbie with a lot to learn). However, I find a notable flaw in the design regarding health points:
Let’s take two players—one ranged, one melee. The ranged player is safe, shooting with their bow/gun without taking risks; they just deal lower damage. If they win, great. If they lose (mostly due to time), they can simply exit the hunt and restart it just before the countdown ends, resuming their hunt. Virtually, they can play indefinitely with just a lot of patience.
On the other hand, the melee player hits harder but has to take risks, learn monster movements, block, and dodge to defeat their target—potentially (and surely) losing health in the process. Once they drop below 30 HP, they can no longer play and must wait (1 HP ~ every 30 seconds) for their health to regenerate.
In this setup, someone who moves around a lot and hunts frequently will end up potentially frustrated and eventually switch equipment entirely (I play with the Charge Blade) because it’s simply less expensive in potion, less frustrating in mechanics, and better in terms of playtime. I understand that balancing is extremely complex and delicate, but at this point, if you exclude the “fun” and “get good/better at the game” (which is still true fundamentally), why bother to play melee instead of ranged ?
