Like another Lock on improvement thread, i decided to make my own take on the lock on improvement (also was posted on other topic for suggestion, but i guess its better to be seperate thread)
basically in addition to current lock on system, by holding the lock on button, it would expand it to a radial menu from the lock on button, and by dragging it on specific direction, you would instantly lock on to that part
also it should be possible to just hold drag the button instantly instead of waiting the radial menu to pop up first
In this case, when you just hold drag upwards, its always lock on to head, while bottom always tail
the key is to make a consistent way to lock on
with this, it would be easier for muscle memory
list of parts that might be used on radial (implying they have all of them):
Top: head/horn
Top L/R : Forelegs, Wings, Hands(?)
Directly Left/Right : Body/Back
Bottom L/R : Hindlegs
Bottom : Tail
Some other note on this suggestion :
left and right might be better to have option to mirror it, in case some people prefer top left to have foreleg on left from our character POV than the actually monster left foreleg
in case of some monster that probably have a lot of body parts, it might be better to split the radial more, but probably would be harder to specifically lock on
Also visit other Lock On concept i was thinking it’s good idea too :
Edit: Updated Lock on small image concept to include all possible lock on
The only suggestion I have left is that the wheel should dynamically adapt to meet whatever lock on points are available for a monster. Also, some monsters (specifically Diablos comes to mind) have 3 lock on points on their center axis - Head, body, tail. The wheel only allows for up to 2 to be selected.
Really though, there’s a ton of problems with lock on. For example, why can I lock on to tough Rathian legs but not soft Rathian wings?
EDIT: I just realized you accommodate this quite nicely by having it split across left and right.
