Consistency on the release of “lock-on” when monster part broken

提案/Suggestion

I play elemental Dual Blades and elemental Gunlance, always with the lock-on skill somewhere in the build. I have noticed recently that once the targeted monster part has been broken, the lock-on is released (un-“locked”). This is a small but great improvement to the user experience, because previously you always had to un-lock and then choose a different part to target, mid-fight. Having the lock-on release once the part is broken is an excellent idea and most welcome.

However, it is not yet consistent across all monsters. I have noticed that with some monsters the lock-on will release automatically once the part has been broken, whereas with others the lock-on still remains.

Love the feature, but please make it consistent across all monsters. I no longer want to be hammering the same part once it has been broken, where I could be hammering another part in order to break that as well. And I certainly don’t want to see other hunters in a group hunt hammering the same locked-on body part for the entire hunt, long after the part has been broken.

現状/Current Status

In recent versions of the game, when you break the “locked-on” monster part, the lock-on often releases. But not on all monsters. Calling for it to be made consistent across all monsters.

I believe this behavior is consistent in that it only “releases” on tail cuts. However, I agree that it would be nice to have a full automatic lock on release.

Really, we need a lock-on overhaul. It’s been brought up since day 1, with a ton of viable alternatives and suggestions brought up since. Hard to say if they’re working on it behind the scenes or ignoring us outright.

Ah, OK, interesting to know, thank you.

It is not so long that I have been able to successfully take down 8* monsters (many still give me trouble), and several, such as Barroth, where I didn’t know that the WGS was in the tail. So it is only fairly recently that I have been quite so intent on cutting tails.

Release of lock-on after breaking the monster part seems to be such a great feature, that it is kind of disappointing to see that it is only a half-hearted implementation. As you say, it would be great if it were to be done properly.

Or at least a toggleable setting.

Sometimes it could be worth it to stay on a broken part, purely for hitzones, if the monster is tanky enough.

Hi, you may be interested in this:

The part break reward information is also available on mhn.quest under Monster > Physiology & Rewards.

Both resources provide the part break reward information, with the spreadsheet one also showing the order in which the rewards appear in the Hunt Report according to what body parts you break (not the order of breaking the body parts).

Hope this helps you in getting the R6 more often!
