Tracked monsters are not picked up from a specific habitat, therefore they do not have an associated habitat information and thus cannot count towards slaying quests that specify a habitat type.
If a Tracked monster is hosted as a Friend Link hunt, it will therefore also not contain any habitat information and therefore cannot contribute to slaying quests that specify a habitat type.
You can observe this in your own Paintball List by looking at the monsters Marked by any type of Paintball and compare them to the monsters you Track with the Palico—only the ones marked by a paintball has a habitat type associated with them, not the tracked ones.
Apologies if I misunderstood Crome1783’s post, but I thought he/she meant that the Monster Tracker does not contribute to slaying quests requiring monsters from a specific habitat, and this is because the Tracked Monsters don’t come from any habitat as they are not marked from the field. In this case, the Tracked Monsters are functioning as designed, unless the developers want to change the specification at a later date.
However, for my case, I was talking about how monsters marked from the field with paintballs do not have their habitat displayed correctly in the lobby and arena.
Therefore, I believe Crome1783’s topic is a distinctly separate topic from mine.
