Broad Overall Goals
Goals
We’re heading into Season 11, so cast aside all complacency!
You’re probably thinking the 2 new monsters, Brachy and Aurora Somna, will be easy, right?
“Just whip up the armor real quick and chill out after~”
Like hell that’s gonna happen!
Has Monster Hunter ever pampered us like that?
NO, NEVER!
So let’s ditch that naive mindset.
There’s no denying that the subspecies could be absolute top-tier essentials.
Stat-wise it might just be a minor increase, but we won’t know until the lid is blown off.
Even with rate-ups, subspecies encounter rates might be stingy.
Who knows what effect adding the new biome will have…
I definitely want to climb the Brachy tower, but considering Aurora Somna will be removed from rate-ups for a while, the initial stretch is super crucial. (Aurora Somna… you… you better not have unique drops…)
If Azure Rathalos spawns are garbage, it’s gonna be brutal.
I mean, can we even hunt mutated subspecies solo with their bloated HP?
Thinking about regular Rathalos mutations gives me a headache already.
Brachy definitely won’t be weak, and there’s no way a Somnacanth subspecies won’t be utterly obnoxious…
Let’s forget all of that for a second.
Oh right! This season has a real-world event (not going, though),
followed by a global event (not participating, though).
Factoring in the possibility that Amatsu might be weak to Fire / Blast, let’s prepare the absolute best gear! (Might not even fight it this year, though)
Scratch that, forget it too.
On top of that, there’s a sneaky announcement that past event weapons are being unlocked. Sigh…
What do you mean, “Returns! Material reduction!”?!
Who’s happy about a material reduction at a time when we’re already crazy busy?!
If it’s a permanent reduction, I’ll just ignore it.
If there’s a time limit, I’ll be like a dead man walking while cursing the devs.
Fire yourselves up, let’s survive Season 11!!
(High priority ↓ Low priority)
- Prioritize crafting Brachy armor. (Head and Coil first; Artillery is low priority, Greaves at best?)
- Craft at least 1 Brachy weapon for Interceptions. (Looking at Blast, Bow and Dual Blades seem safe? Insect Glaive is also a candidate)
- Craft Aurora Somna armor. (Prioritize Charge Stock on Mail and Coil)
- Craft Azure Rathalos weapons.
- No pre-release info on Accessories yet, so check those first?
- Watch how the event weapon reductions go. (Keep the Period 2 Halloween event in mind as well)
- Driftmelt Windproof onto gear.
- Gather info on Amatsu even though I’m not participating.
- Aknosom weapons look cool at least, so give it a shot. (No real reason to use them in Interceptions outside of challenge runs)

Season 11 Survival Guide Part 1 (Brachy Edition)
Season 11 overlaps with the 3rd Anniversary, so there’s probably way too much going on and you might be overwhelmed.
Feel free to use my guidelines as a reference.
First, prioritize the new monster’s armor.
New monster armor has a high chance of becoming top-tier meta, and often impacts future builds.
Plus, the event bonus granting extra large monster materials is a huge blessing.
Considering Driftmelting, you want to get them to at least 6/5.
It’s also crucial to identify must-haves and top meta pieces early on and build them right away.
Make those your highest priority.
For me, that means upgrading up to 8/2, so that’s what I plan to hit.
I think 追い打ち【爆破】 could easily be top meta this time.
The Brachy Helm and Coil are high priority.
On the other hand, realistically speaking, 砲撃・境地 can only really be utilized by Gunlance, and even if pure-shelling GL sees a resurgence, its versatility remains limited. (If you watched how Deviljho Gunlance turned out, you know what I mean).
Even if I make it eventually, right now isn’t the time.
I’ll keep an eye on the numbers while prioritizing other gear. (Though I’ll definitely ensure the 6/5 minimum threshold).
Taking all this into account, the 追い打ち【爆破】 on Brachy weapons is also worth considering.
The reason is Amatsu.
Looking at past titles, Amatsu is very likely weak to Fire, Dragon, and Blast.
And considering the absurd health pool of an ultra-large monster, the usefulness of Blast goes without saying.
- Dual Blades lack Stamina Surge/management skills, so outside of the SP skill, they feel lackluster. I acknowledge their usefulness for part breaking, but how effective Blast actually is remains an unknown, making them hard to evaluate. Against Amatsu’s attacks, their evasive capabilities are decent, so that tilts them into the “viable” camp. If you say “Just use DBs that alter playstyle!”, fair point.
- Switch Axe has useful SP and attacks, I think. However, having virtually zero evasive capabilities will make using it against Amatsu pretty painful. Especially if you already built Bazel’s, and it heavily depends on personal skill.
- Lance looks viable at first glance, but I bet there’ll be guard-piercing attacks. How well it performs even with Guard Up remains to be seen, though I think it’s a relatively safe bet. Then again, Bazel Lance is lurking right behind it, so it’s a tough call.
- Insect Glaive seems fairly solid. But it’s Co-op Power type. Giving up Skill Lv5 and just using the Magnamalo Glaive might be better, which would leave a lot more breathing room.
Well, depending on the skill’s numbers, it might end up benched entirely.
We should also keep in mind that Blast might not be as crazy on Amatsu as we think, so considering alternative weapons is wise.
Regarding Amatsu, apparently there are rewards even for Ballista-only phases.
Word is that slaying rewards are generous too, so expectations are high.
They say they want to make it feel worth attending, so do your best.
As for hunting Brachydios:
Ice is its weakness.
However, Water is effective on parts coated in slime.
Might be one of those signature gimmick weaknesses.
If it’s slime-coated, only the head and arms apply, so dealing zero bonus damage to the tail is gonna hurt.
This time, the head seems to drop the unique rare material, so I want to burst Head → Tail with Dual Blade SP, then break the arms to lock it down and finish it off without letting it move.
The slime is going to be annoying.
At worst, do we slot resistance skills? Level 3 is way too steep an investment though.
Season 11 Survival Guide Part 2 (Aurora Somna Edition)
If you ask me whether Aurora Somnacanth gear is necessary this period, it’s questionable.
The Brutal Strike slot on the arms is undeniably good.
It expands options for melee Brutal Strike builds.
However, most people probably already completed builds with Glavenus Mail and such, so there’s no rush to make it right now.
Charge Stock is practically Hammer-exclusive, but Hammer already has plenty of contenders like Charge Master, so armor slots are tight.
Add Driftmelting into the mix, and it really raises the question: is it worth rushing to finish right now? Probably not an emergency.
The other pieces are interesting too, but when asked if they’re a must right now, you can’t help but feel like going all out next period would be fine.
However, this could very well be a trap.
Judging from Sunbreak, Aurora Somna will likely be restricted to Tundra only.
(Update: The official announcement says it’ll spawn in Swamps too! Woohoo!)
Across 5 biomes including Volcano, being limited to Tundra as a rare subspecies—once rate-ups end, imagine how awful finding it will be…
Viper Kadachi shared similar conditions; when was the last time you hunted one in the wild?
Plus, Aurora Somna is only boosted for 2 weeks, from 9/17 to 10/1.
The next rate-up won’t be until Period 2 (supposedly it appears in Dimension Links, but Dimension Links are scarce anyway).
Looking at the skill set, it’s not wildly broken, so I’d like to believe upgrades use Wyvern Gem Shards…
But what if it has its own unique R6 drop…?
Danger senses tingling. It might be wise to adopt the mindset of “hunt every single one you spot.”
For HaTs, I want to focus on Brachy, and for the Tracker, I want to assign Azure Rath.
If Aurora Somna is free, tracking it is an option, but if it takes 3 slots for unique parts, that’s rough.
Field hunting will likely be the main source, but unless you hunt 8★ and 9★, gathering materials looks grim.
Looks like I’ll have to take them down with the Bazel Light Bowgun.
Season 11 Survival Guide Part 3 (Period 1 Interception Edition)
Our next Critical Monster is the fluffy Paolumu.
As long as you slot Windproof, it’s not that difficult.
Melee users need to aim for the head, so it’s actually easier solo.
It still flies around as usual, so your attacks won’t connect as consistently.
Featured weapons are Brachydios, Azure Rathalos, and 30% for Aknosom.
| Brachy | Az. Rath | Akno | |
|---|---|---|---|
| SnS | ◯ | ◯ | × |
| DB | ◯ | × | ◯ |
| GS | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| LS | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| Hammer | ◯ | × | × |
| HH | ◯ | × | × |
| Lance | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| GL | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| SA | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| CB | ◯ | ◯ | × |
| IG | ◯ | ◯ | ◯ |
| LBG | ◯ | ◯ | × |
| HBG | ◯ | × | × |
| Bow | ◯ | ◯ | × |
Getting a full set of Brachy weapons would be ideal, but don’t push yourself—aim for 1 or 2.
I’m picking DB and Insect Glaive, though other weapon types will probably yield higher numbers than DB.
For the rest, round things out with Azure Rath; Aknosom has low firepower, so pass on it.
For Azure Rath, Insect Glaive feels like a solid bet.
The next reliable pick is probably Lance. Charge Blade sounds fun too, but the problem is my own skill level…
Oh, right—Bazel LBG is definitely worth considering as a candidate. (800k seems solid, might even reach 1M if pushed).
Also, let’s briefly touch upon “爆砲アトミキャノン”.
Weapon Skill: Artillery Lv1
Wyvern Ammo / 2 / Wyvern / Slightly Slow (② Normal)
Lv1 Sticky Ammo 4 / High (② Mid) / Slow (❸ Slightly Slow)
Recoil Down 2, Reload Speed 3
(Referencing Deviljho HBG)
Bazel Helm: Reload Lv2, Artillery Lv1
Lumu Mail: Recoil Lv2, Windproof Lv1
Black Diablos Vambraces: 攻撃境地 Lv1, Reload/Recoil Lv1
Bazel Coil: Artillery Lv2
Brachy Greaves: 砲術境地 Lv1, Artillery Lv2
Building for Interceptions would probably look something like this?
It does look fun.
Word on the street is that Artillery might be added to the Driftmelting pool.
Personally, I didn’t think that would happen, but looking at this build, the wasted Artillery levels really stand out.
With 砲術・境地 arriving and no other standout weapons in sight,
if Artillery gets added to the next batch of Mysterious Driftstones, Artillery builds will see a massive boost.
Since players have been requesting it, the possibility isn’t zero.
Hard to call right now, so I’ll just mention it in passing.
Season 11 Survival Guide Part 4 (Legacy Weapon Edition)
Looks like we get a free Grade 10-1 weapon from the event.
Apparently it’s a choice of one out of four: Rathalos, Mizutsune, Zinogre, or Legiana. Unless there’s a very specific reason, you should pick from those with unique rare materials.
That means choosing between Mizutsune or Zinogre.
The logic is simple: cost efficiency. Unique rare monsters demand heavy materials and Zenny.
Since you can get one for free, picking a monster with unique rares is a no-brainer.
Besides, all four of these have a 1-month material reduction period.
Cost-heavy unique rares are tough to craft casually, but Wyvern Gem Shard weapons can be managed somehow.
For weapon type candidates, Dual Blades come first—an undisputed must-have for material farming and Mass Outbreaks.
Next, I’d strongly advocate for Insect Glaive.
Whoever picks it up manages decent results.
It’s great for high-tier hunts. (Though with Coral Pukei getting a mutation, Mizu Glaive drops a bit in priority).
Alongside that, Lance—where you just spam Spiral Thrust—is also a great candidate.
You definitely want to keep these three in mind.
Other weapon types have their quirks, so pick based on preference.
Personally, with 砲術・境地 arriving, I’ll throw Gunlance out there as a dark horse.
As for what I’m personally picking:
I think I’ll go with 王牙弓【稚雷】.
I’ve already built a ton of weapons, and while I debated between it and the 王牙銃槍【火雷】, I settled on the Bow.
I mean, I don’t really feel like flying through the air…
As mentioned earlier, there’s a material reduction rerun until Tuesday, October 20 at 8:59 AM.
Along with the four above, Deviljho and Magnamalo are also discounted.
However, they aren’t rate-up monsters, and Deviljho—the one you’d want to build most—won’t spawn unless you switch Monster Investigations to the Special Investigation.
With all our focus needed on new monsters, we’ll probably just have to pass on it.
A few previously distributed event weapons are also returning.
With so much on our plate, getting reruns and reductions feels overwhelming… but since Style Unlocks aren’t included, anyone who played consistently should already have them near 10-5.
I plan to max out “バルーントイブレイド” and “エッグトイアームズ” to 10-5, which were too resource-heavy for me to finish during the previous event.
You get tickets just by fighting large monsters anyway, so no need to stress.
If anyone hasn’t built them yet, you should at least max out “ツインリース”.
