Rajang should be an invader, just like deviljho! They fill very similar roles in the monster hunter environment and differentiating them in this way isn’t right.

Rajang is simply a limited spawn monster without being an invader.
I disagree. Rajang should be field. Save the Furious Rajang for Invaders. He’s the REAL THOUGH ONE. Then again. We didnt get a savage jho and at that point IF THEY release Savage Deviljho then they ought to make deviljho a normal field monster and then replace him as invader with savage deviljho.
Rajang has been a staple in the series and his armor skills AREN’T that impressive.
I don’t understand. None of the reasons you gave are reasons that Rajang should not be an invader. Niantic has made no mention of how or when they plan to introduce variants to the game. While it’s likely that they will do so eventually, the fact is that normal invader species are already in the game, and an entire invasion system has already been implemented. The presence of a stronger version of the invading species in question (to be added in a number of years, in all likelihood) in no way precludes it from taking part in that system.
As much as, ye, Raj should be an invader, I don’t think that he should be brought into the system. If anything, I would bring pickle from invader system and abolish it all together. Every monster with unique 6 tier drop can be considered end game and locking them out of group hunts for the sake of monster lore is not the way to do it. Release the pickle!
Invader system is half baked at best, it serves nothing currently, but a funny gimmick that survived 2 seasons before even niantic forgot about it. I want to hunt jho without the hassle of guessing and him being able to spawn once per zone
To reinforce my point here, I have the same amount of pickle and kush taken down. The latter can be hunt only in EDI, was implemented later and is overall a harder fight (both can be hunted with the same gear). And I’m not exactly known for passing on anything that still draws breath. Truth be told, pickle might be the rarest monster in the game BECAUSE of invasions
I do agree that the invasion system needs an overhaul. I get that it’s hard to do fairly but in the current implementation, it feels more like Deviljho is “scared” of us and “hiding”, which is completely uncharacteristic for the monster’s behavior. I would still see Rajang put in the same situation as it though, whatever that situation ends up looking like in the end. If the old system isn’t designed to handle a second invading monster, then that should be an incentive all around to rethink how it is implemented.
As a random suggestion, maybe “volatile habitats” don’t show you what monsters are what until they are in range of your character? And as a trade off, they have a higher chance to be an invader but also have a higher chance to be a non-invasive limited spawn (such as subspecies or Zino). It’s a volatile habitat, our scanning tech isn’t as operational as it would be otherwise, that could be the logic. Monsters outside your radius could show star level but use the classic “unknown monster” identifier until directly sighted.
Volatile territory is localised to just that grid for the entire day, while HATs are not limited to that one grid. There’s RNG, yes, but at least you don’t have to search for that one grid which may or may not have much spawns.
I don’t see how moving it to VT would be an “improvement” over it being in HATs.
However, I understand that some places are simply lacking in large nodes (and therefore HAT points) and have more monsters than large nodes in general, but I don’t think VT is exactly a “better” place.
It would not be an “improvement” as “easier for the player” but it would be an “improvement” as “more true to the game”.
Imagine if Kirin got added in the next update, but was not put in Elder Dragon Interceptions “because it’s a horse, not an elder dragon”. It would be wrong!
At least Kirin is actually documented/categorized as an Elder Dragon.
Regarding Rajang as an Invader, I didn’t play the recent games, so you’ll have to explain that “invader” aspect. As far I am concerned, Rajang has always been a high-level monster without any huge gimmicks outside of its actual combat. I am referencing the older games, as my knowledge on the recent ones is lacking; though I did play Rise and there wasn’t this aspect of it.
The basic jist goes as follows: in world there were a couple of monsters whos behaviour was programmed to actively seeking out hunters engaged in fights with other monsters. Harambe, Pickle and Bettlejuice were such monsters. Henceforth “invaders” as they would come in and wreck havoc, making the actual target of the hunt even more miserable (and if hunter was inexperienced, it could be a potential cart too). Their respective subspecies would be a foil to elders, being on par with them (that’s revelant, cause those subspecies would “invade” elder hunts). Long story short it was a nice damage boost on legs
I think it will be fun and fitting if Rajang can invade the thunder elemental monsters: tobi, tzitzi(not thunder elemental but its weapons are thunder) and khezu.
It doesn’t make sense. Raj seeks out a very specific monster (Kirin, not in the game yet) for a very specific reason (harambe worked out eating a horn of lightning elder dragon will boost its power level). Every other invasion is just him being aggressive and territorial
Yeah…. “Aggressive and territorial” are the defining features of invaders. Not every aggressive and territorial monster is an invader, but this one absolutely is!
