Opinions About the Monster Outbreak Test

提案/Suggestion

For outbreaks, it seems a little dysfunctional to have them locked into just one specific location. It would make more sense for them to either function like your pokemon go outbreaks, or at least designate them to a randomized grid event like your jho/geuse events. The location i tried to attend was too busy from non gamers for me to safely play and a wider play area would have allowed me to do so.

Also, some outbreak locations in my city were not good pedestrian locations. Several were at major road intersections where there woule be no safe place to gather a group.

I had signed up for all four Black Diablos Outbreaks at my local Outbreak point: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 and 15:00.

Today I realized that I am going to be in a different town for the Saturday 10:00 Outbreak, so I unsubscribed from my local Outbreak, switched to the wide map view and scrolled all the way (about 50km, so it took many minutes) to where I am going to be at 10:00 tomorrow. No Outbreak was shown.

Now this town is the county town of its county (“state” in US terms), and one of the largest cities in the country. The train station has more than a dozen gathering points, and there is NO WAY that there is not going to be an Outbreak there.

Since I do not wish the Outbreak to be either fully subscribed or have no subscribers because other players don’t want to be the only one, I have had to jump on a train to where I will be tomorrow morning and subscribe in person. This is tremendously inefficient, given that Niantic could EASILY feed me the same map / Outbreak data that a person physically standing there would get.

UPDATE: there will indeed be an Outbreak at this location, despite it not being shown on the wide map view.

Pros.

1: The same worth while monster back to back.

2: Twice a day.

Cons.

1: Outbreaks should be 9 hours apart for those that work so they can make at least 1 outbreak.

2: Outbreak points are random and dont make sense. A hospital? A city hall? A busy corner street? Not once did i see an outbreak at a park. Parks should be a staple for outbreaks.

3: Hardly any signups and i know it is based on location. Most ive seen signed up at an outbreak was 6 signups that was the only 1 that had 6 which also included myself and a friend. Some others had just 1. Most had none. Ended up soloing more than half the outbreaks and the others that signed up didnt show. Maybe for solo queueing make it a max of 3 for dimensional link that way its not to easy or to hard? Or leave it at 4?? And maybe reduced rewards for the option to opt into dimensional link??

I think this new event style has a lot of potential, and love it as a team/player-focused resource for materials.

However, some adjustments are severely needed, especially for areas that simply cannot match Japan’s player density.

-Treat the signup as the only thing you must be present for. Anyone crossing the access point that signs up, should be able to access remotely the day of the event. The requirement to be within range of the spot is severely limiting to fostering participation numbers. A total of 8 people signed up across all slots in my Outbreak node, and none showed up. I solo’d it as best I could.

-Short of remote access, even allowing you enter the event as long as it shows up on your screen’s range at the designated time would help. I was forced to stand in the cold as the only way to play the event due to the range and lack of seating area nearby.

-Short of both of the above, simply treating is as a normal HaT would also help- that is, once you join, you are free to walk away to a more comfortable area. After completing the battle, you should be placed in the same HaT menu after defeating a monster, prompted to go into another Outbreak battle.

This is an event that has a highly narrow access window. That is limitation enough. There must be more access flexibility for those actually interested in participating once the event time commences, otherwise it is squandering what could be an incredibly valuable mode for both players and the developer.

Looking forward to the next one and how Outbreaks evolve.

Three of us travelled for an hour by train to join an Outbreak. Two other players were listed as registered for the event, but neither showed up.

So we have travelled an hour on the train to this Outbreak to support the initiative, even though none of us even need Black Diablos materials any more.

Surprise, surprise, it is EXACTLY the same as a group hunt. Only four of you can participate at once, so that if the other two had showed up, we would have to take turns on sitting out, you get no extra potions or anything.

All three of us have Grade 10.5 weapons.

All three of us have Grade 8 armour.

All three of us are experienced at slaying Black Diablos, but all three of us hate her with a passion because of her unpredictability. There is a very good reason why she is the monster at the end of Chapter 12. All three of us can slay Glavenus without breaking a sweat, but BD is still the same bitch that she has always been.

So we have slain two Black Diablos, scored six points for the cause and used four potions between us. Despite our familiarity with her.

So I am writing this report while I am waiting for my health to get back to 30, because I am damned if I am going to use any more of my precious daily potions on a monster than I don’t even need.

Oh, and if you want user feedback, then the in-game link needs to go to a dedicated thread or topic, not just to the top level of the Community Forum. How hard would it have been for someone to have thought of that?

It is now 10:37. We will kill more BDs until the event ends at 11:00 and hopefully then get the medal. We had all also signed up for the 15:00 event and both events tomorrow, but we will be unsubscribing and not participating. Buy three train tickets, travel for an hour and use up all of your daily first aid medicines on slaying a monster that we don’t even need? Nah, I don’t think so.

UPDATE

Third hunt: all three of us killed (three more potions), hunt failed.

Fourth hunt: clean third kill, both horns and tail broken, not a scratch on any of us. As it should be.

Fifth hunt: would have been a clean kill, we even got to the death animation, then we all got the “Please move to a location with good reception” message, the monster’s health got reset to 100%, then we all got the “communication status” message and all got kicked out without the kill.

For two of the three of us, the app then stopped responding altogether and was not taking screen input. Upon restarting the app, we both had to log in again. For me it worked first time, but the other guy had to try three times in total before it would let him in. It kept going back to the “Returning Player / New Player” screen, even though he was inputting his details correctly.

Sixth hunt: a reasonably clean fourth kill, only one potion used.

Seventh hunt: we were just about to hit “Ready to Hunt”, when it hit 11:00 and we were unceremoniously kicked out, without being able to complete the hunt. No “I’ve started so I’ll finish”, a la Magnus Magnusson.

We then got a screen that showed that we had scored 10 out of 100, because of course 3 x 4 equals 10.

The next screen, however, did show a total of 12 kills and four individual kills.

All three of us have unsubscribed from all remaining events and will use the few potions that we have left for going back and hunting Kirin.

Although I completely understand the frustration, how is it you guys are having issues when myself and 2 random people managed to take down an outbreak on our own…

I do not have a 10-5 weapon (using G9-5), and my armor is G8 on the important pieces, yet I manage a consistent 40s solo, with no hits; and our random team beat it within 20s with almost 0 deaths (1 death was mine, which i accidentally ate cause I was playing poorly).

You may wonder how this is possible; I took the role as Paralyzer and held the
monster down for the team with a set with maxed Status Sneak, using the Great Girros’ Gunlance (G9-5).

Here is the result of our endeavor, about 30 mins of non-stop back-to-back hunts, either we duo, trio or solo as stated before, we were not in contact nor did we know one another.

You had a team of three experienced players that are open to communicate; and the result of your efforts speaks more of your own ability than it does the flaws of the Outbreak.

Yes, it is basically a glorified Huntathon, but it is in my opinion, something that truly challenges players’ excellence, not as individuals but as team players. How well can you work with your community to complete the challenge that is not a simple one and done with a 3 hour cooldown.

Regarding the bugs, that’s unfortunate and honestly, can’t say much about it so feel free to bombard it.

@hacman87 I think the 3 of you should take a moment to review and discuss your builds. It’s also part of the hunter’s life! Don’t give up!
I’ve got a game crash once personally but didn’t face any other technical difficulty with the event.

@Manicto It also challenges players’ excellence individually :stuck_out_tongue:

With their weapons and equipment it does sound like Hacman87 and his friends were focusing more on getting parts parts rather than just shooting the wings and killing quickly. But they do emphasize a point I will never stop saying about this game which is that the health potion situation is really mean. Why charge us just to play? Why are we not allowed to accumulate more than 10 health potions unless we pay money? There are so many other ways this game gets what little money we all have these days that it just feels greedy and wrecks the fun of playing in my opinion.

I agree with the other posters regarding the OP and his friends to optimize their builds and team synergy, vs it being an inherently flawed idea.

But I will absolutely agree with the potion issue. There are already pre-built milestones during an outbreak. Why not award 1 potion for the first milestone, two for the next and so on? How does it matter how many people show up if they’re potion-locked from progressing? I know potions are profit-focused, but even players that pay for potions won’t waste their precious resource to recover if there aren’t enough people remaining to help them out for team play.

Issue 1: Campfire maps for MHN is still in development (If there is ever going to be one…)
Issue 2: I have played for about a year and 5 month of the game life, but I had never talk to someone until yesterday, thanks to this person being the only one that tried to play the first round of the event. I HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED ALONE. If the Campfire map existed, it would contain information about outbreak, their location, and it would be easier to play with other people.
Issue 3: derived from issue 2, I played the event ALONE. Only the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, because during the first, I scouted the surroundings of my city in search of other outbreak point, hoping to find one with people, to no avail. This means I could only kill around 50 Black Diablos per round (for a total of about 160 kills).
Issue 3: It is not fun in the slightest to watch 160 animations of the same monster dying. Said animation should be removed for the duration of an outbreak event to save time. I wasted about 3 seconds per kill, meaning I wasted about 480 seconds, thats 8 more Black Diablos I could have killed.
Issue 4: Actually, there should be an option to remove dying animations completely in settings, and the story dialogue too (a “Skip” button at least FFS!!!).
Issue 5: I found 3 outbreaks points close to where I live. Two of them were in train stations (terrible place for a lot of people to get together), one was in a mall (OK place to meet). Why weren’t there in parks?!?!
Issue 6: You probably know this by now, but people were more inclined to play in the afternoon according to the few Sign up times I saw in Outbreaks. So if you were testing for the best time for Outbreaks to take place, go with afternoons.
Issue 7: 30% HP minimum to hunt is still a sh1t greedy mechanic as I explained in the feedback e-mail I sent 5 days after the game released on September 19th, 2023 (which also included a better greedy-less way to make, PROBABLY, more money). HP and potion usage was not a problem for me during this event since I know how to handle the horned damsel in heat, but the mechanic is still pure sh1t.
Issue 8: the reward for completed the event is quite small. Maybe some special equipment layer, grade 6 plates or more zenny would be better? or you could have prizes depending on achievements during the outbreak? Break every monster part during ONE hunt, hunt a monster without breaking any parts, kill a monster in xx:xx time, kill a monster x times in xx:xx time, kill the monster using x weapon type, kill a monster with every member of the group using x weapon type, kill a monster using x layered equipment set. I’m sure you can figure out more (but not a greedy-less way to make money, since you still use potions to make the game Pay2Play apparently…)
Suggestion 1: outbreaks should just be nest like in Pokemon Go that rotate every day (since the habitat has to coincide…).
Suggestion 2: you should be able to hunt with players around the world like with dimensional rifts or hunt-a-thons.
Suggestion 3: remove the 30% HP minimum to hunt… Oh, I mentioned that one already? sorry, but since the mechanic that’s keeping the game from growing is still in place for some 1d10t1c reason…
Suggestion 4: there should be an option to hunt 9 star or 10 star monster for high level players and the rewards should increase accordingly.
Suggestion 5: 30% HP minimum is cr4p, oh my god it happened again, so sorry. It’s just it would make the game recommendable and 10 times more fun. I simply can’t recommend a game called “Monster Hunter NOW” when you can’t hunt monsters now because of greedy mechanics.

That’s all I can think of at the moment, nice try trying to introduce a new event, but it feels a bit bland in my opinion (and that’s even with the motivation I had to gather horns for the Black Diablos bow).

It needs polish but hopefully you’ll figure it out.

P.D.: and remember, whoever thought AND whoever agreed the 30% HP minimum limitation to hunt monsters mechanic was a good idea should be dusting of the shelves of a Blockbuster (no offence towards Blockbuster intended).

@Cromeros8683 having potions at each milestone is a great idea. It would be nice to also have perfect cooked meat like 2 when you reach 50 so you can face the last 30 minutes with the special skill always on at the beginning. To give a shonen feeling to those who are alone/few but still reward those who challenge it on with 4 or more players. I understand it was just a test outbreak but the last reward for completion was also laughable. I’d expect one rarity 6 and 10k zenny at least. Unless you have outbreaks everyday in the futur.

@HINOA49 I personally hope campfire won’t be used for MHNow. But instead a feature in game like being able to create guilds with local players with the same functions as campfire. Campfire is better than nothing and there is a community for PoGo in my region but so many people don’t bother joining because it’s a different app. Having something in game would make everything easier. Also, Japanese friends came to France last summer and they told me they could message their friends in game. That would’ve been really useful to unlock the function for everyone now the outbreaks are out. Many people probably added friends after a HaT without seeing them. Being able to say « hi I’m going to that outbreak are you joining? » even in a premade sentence if you’re afraid of foreigners harassing each others would be appreciated.

About the other issues I totally agree with the skip function. Would be nice to also have the reward results of all the hunts showing at the very end of the outbreak in a list form with a small button to double next to each result. So we don’t need to waste time with results as well. Not totally related to but an auto sell function would also be really appreciated so that people with limited on space can keep going without additional pressure.

I’m not sure about the « make outbreaks online » because the idea seems to create local communities. A bit like PoGo when you show up to your local community during an event you get a few more in game rewards and sometimes goodies. Would be nice if MHNow follow this path in my opinion.

About the potions it would be great to be able to start a hunt with 1hp and face the risk to fail instantly. Meanwhile a potion give 50hp and a mega potion 100hp.
I also wish that we get perfect meat(15min) when we hit score 100 instead of normal well cooked meat.

I agree with everything that you have written. Thank you very much for writing in such detail.

The only thing that was different for me was that you were able to join all of the Outbreaks. I was only able to join the Saturday morning one; after that, it allowed me to join, showed the “Start” screen, then kicked me straight out and would not allow me to rejoin. “Network Error 6-3”.

The feature should work like a hunt a thon so that I don’t have to exit after each battle. Hopefully Silver Rathalos is the next monster to be featured for outbreak.

I think is a very good edition to the Game, like the idea of farming a specific Monster.

the issue is as much already said getting with other playera specially for the time frames, in my case, this sunday a have an issue to get so I play solo the outbreak one near my Home but really got difficult to get some where else

The sugestión I have is to implement a link to the spot You register so hunters can access the same point from any other point they have close by or more accesible.

Other thing make it so when You finish a hunter ask you to continue or leave, un the same thread let us select stay in a lobby an move a little bit because of safety measures some points I found were in very dangerous spots

About the rewards I think for the challange You should put it as an objectives list, if the outbreak reach 10 hunts give some rewards a better one for 20, 50 an a 100 so we feel like getting something for trying. I would recomend not giving Monsters material but something more valuable like earth cristal an Monster bones plus or even better driftstone shards, the wanderer dust, a paint ball that would be awsome

For the future, I do remember that You want to make some Monster easier to find in certain days I think the outbreak can help with this I would like to see it as mini events from monday to friday and a better Monster like a sub on the weekends

I think thats everything I got, I hope ir helps, sorry for taking my time ando maybe the grammar, I really want to see more ways to enjoy this Game and see it grow for the better. Thanks for everything

Feedback after the event.
Plus point:
Nice event if you need to hunt materials from a specific monster.

Things I would like improved:

  1. Ability to view all Outbreak points in wide map view, and see participants that signed up for it.
My city is not densely populated. I signed up at the busiest, touristy part of my town which had 15 people registered. But only 3 people including myself and sibling showed up. The 3rd person left after awhile so it was only 2 of us finishing 80% of 100 Diablos…

  2. Milestone rewards would have been nice, like extra monster materials, HP Potions, Meat, etc..

  3. Additional rewards for players that contribute towards the milestone.
I don’t know if you’re able to participate in multiple outbreak points and get separate rewards for those that cleared 100 monsters, but milestone contributions may encourage players to gather and actually stay to finish at least 100.

  4. Have the choice to continue to the next battle without returning to map after each battle and skipping the “Completed” scenes. Those few seconds add up to a lot of wasted time. Gotta maximise the Meat timer!

  5. Maybe Outbreak points could have a wider range of access, because not all points turned out in a conducive location. It was in the middle of a busy road intersection. Or if the battles were consecutive without returning to map, we could move to a safer location once joining.

  6. Perhaps the ability to leave messages at the outbreak point or some way to communicate with other players would be great.

  7. More varied outbreak times. One in the later evening would have been nice, because it was sweltering hot at 3pm :sun_with_face::fire:
