The only way I can participate is in HATs. Thank goodness for that. In my town there are very few players if any at all. We need a better multiplayer system.

Agreed, I have group hunts in Hats to do remote playing but no nearby players where I play. Would be great to see a remote multiplayer hunting system in a nearby future update. This would be great for facing elder dragons or in general, it would add so much fun to the game. %
Niantic doesn’t seem to get that we can’t do group hunts, not that we don’t want to. All I can do is start a HAT and hope someone jumps in.
Agree very much so. While granted, the game was launched globally, the highest congregation of hunters will always be Japan, China, Hong Kong and US. For instance in my town (population ~500k) there’s like 10 people playing MHNow? At least 3 of them are because of me. So not a lot of people all things concidered. I want jolly coop but can’t. Unless I jump into HaT (which I can once every 3 hours so without a ticket it’s like 2 times per day at most. Daily limit would be so much better, I’m a working man, and can’t realistically take a break every 3 hours to hunt some virtual animals).
Long story short, I will push through this event but I would strongly urge the dev team to reconsider their current take on multiplayer
I’m not trying to discount everyone’s experiences with this aspect of the game, but such is the nature of geolocation games. Your experience hinges greatly on the player density at your location.
Niantic games are geolocation games, so I’m not sure how they can change the game in a way that will not also defeat the purpose of it being a geolocation game. Barrier to entry is part of any system, like how VR games are not meant for people who do not have the physical capability to handle and play VR games. Games are designed around a core concept, just like any project or design of any nature. To change the core design is akin to changing everything that’s built on top of it, and that’s as good as playing a different game.
If we really want to bypass geolocation limitations, look to the MH on other platforms instead that do not involve geolocation as their core mechanism.
Well there are ways to do it
First of all, SOS flares. Limit those to like 2-3 daily, let the helper choose what to help with (similar to palico tracking) and there you have it. And it gives more monetisation for Niantic, so win-win, you can even make it location based to begin with, spawning additional “hunts”
Then there’s “hunters in your vicinity” thing. For starters it’s finnicky on a good day, works half of the time and secondly there’s no notification when I have my phone locked that someone invites me for a hunt
RaF system being nerfed to oblivion, cause someone in management thought they will make big bucks on potions of all things also contributes. I have no desire to reference people to a game if said game won’t reward me past 20 references, and people will rather uninstall the game than whale on healing. Skill based means that you either git gud or dye tryin
Lastly, friend system is kinda non existent. Sure I can buy my friend bag of potions and check what they are up to, but that’s about it. You can’t interact with them, you can’t exchange anything, hell, you cant even invite from the menu
I’m agreeing on the fact that it’s GPS based title and as such it has it’s core standard. I’m also not advocating for content that was in PokeGo, like PvP, for the sake of just more interactions. Nobody wants monhun PvP. But there’s always a way to make it more accessible for people like me, stuck in a country that isn’t as enamored in this franchise as I am.
Long story short, this game, more than pokeymans would make me want to walk for hours with a group, but there’s just nobody to group with and it shows especially during MP oriented weeklies
While my area has no problem finding hunters, the problem is of a slightly different nature: there are hunters nearby, but they don’t join the hunt.
There are several reasons that I can think of why they don’t join the hunt, but I’m not complaining about those reasons.
The target of this “complaint” is that the “# hunters nearby” is not a reliable indicator of who are nearby and available to hunt a particular monster.
I have previously suggested in the old forums to:
First point will help us to decide whether or not to wait for that 10 hunters who may or may not join the hunt. If they are not joining the hunt, usually because they have already hunted the monster, then don’t show me that there are 10 hunters nearby because none of them can receive my invite anyway. Don’t waste time waiting for no one.
Second point is to help the host understand how many of the available hunters have actually received their invite (as indicated by the “Join hunt” button appearing on their field map). If they are in the menus, they obviously will not have seen the invitation and thus are not considered to have been invited.
Also, I have recently suggested to #indicate which monster is being hosted. This will help hunters know which monster is being targeted and whether they want to join that one or host their own one for better rewards (upgrading the monster difficulty) or greater success rate (lowering the monster difficulty). I believe this will help hunters decide whether to join the hunt or not and encourage hunters of different strengths and story progression to work together in group hunts.
I hope the barriers to hunting in groups can be removed as much as possible so that players can enjoy hunting with others without worrying about causing unhappiness.
I can agree with first point (but my man, 10 hunters? I’m envious) I’m not keen on the second one. I’m an advocate for unique IDs for monsters, which granted makes group hunting very lucrative, but at the same time I feel like if someone can take down 8 monster with increased health, said someone should be rewarded by being able to hunt for a second time, even if it’s on lower difficulty
Haha there are more in the areas with more players… One of my fellow countrymen went to Japan and he saw like 100+ nearby hunters. Invites were non-stop. Similar situation as other high player density places in Taiwan and Hong Kong too. The most I ever personally saw in my country was 20+ during traffic peak hours at transport hubs/shopping mall. Most of the time it’s fewer than 10 during evening hours when the hunters are most likely out and about or having dinner in one of the many food establishments dotted throughout the residential areas here. Some places here simply have more hunters than other areas in the same country. Demographics, I guess.
As for the “second serving”, with the hourly spawns now, I feel that there’s no need for double-dipping now, even if the second hunt is of a lower strength and reward (technically similar rewards when hunting the “paired” strengths, like 2★ & 3★, 4★ & 5★, 6★ & 7★, 8★ to 10★). The monster tracker also helped a lot, especially for the purpose of clearing quests that target the same monster as what’s available in the tracker menu. Plus, there’s still the pseudo “double-dipping” thing with hunters of different progression, so we don’t really need to let the same hunter hunt the same monster more than once. But, at least show us which monster is being targeted so that players can make a judgment on whether to join the hunt or not, or to upgrade/downgrade the monster strength accordingly so that everyone can reap the benefits of a successful hunt. I see that eventually we will have to solve this “annoyance” after settling the issue with having someone to hunt with. I know this is more like a “first-world problem”, but it’s still a problem nonetheless. If I see 100 invites and only 10 are 8-star, most people will just try to join those 10 and ignore the remaining 90, which doesn’t fully solve the issue with “insufficient hunters”.
Fair point. Wherever double dip does or doesn’t exist, the underlining issue is at the amount of active hunters regionally. MP events are tougher in regions where this density is extremely low (for the record, the most non scheduled hunters nearby I had was 2 during peak hours and it happened once. I’m playing since launch). This coupled with the fact, that like most multiplayer or mobile games, player base is fluctuating (based on content drops and patches) and MHNow had a rough couple of months (optimisation wasn’t the greatest before v75) means that I have here a better chance at getting double dragon shard drop than coop chance. Now, I’m accustomed to hunt solo, sure, but it’s disheartening regardless, especially with massive push towards the whole multiplayer hunting (extra carves are always a good thing).
I’m not saying that Niantic is obliged to increase the density of my region artificially, I’m not that entitled. But I would surely be happy if something did happen. Maybe increasing the recruitment range? High density regions will be unaffected by this regardless, they get, as you said, 100+ hunters during peak hours?
