Gunlance normal shelling angle becomes fixed at high angle after shelling at high angle once while in gyro mode

Steps:

  1. Equip any gunlance.
  2. Enter any hunt (e.g. small monster, large monster, or training ground).
  3. Enable gyro mode.
  4. Aim at the horizon or even slightly downwards to make sure that no other elements are affecting the firing angle of gunlance’s normal shelling.
  5. Tap the lower half of the screen (e.g. next to the SP button). Observe that the gunlance fires a shell laterally.
  6. Tap the upper half of the screen. Observe that the gunlance fires a shell at a high angle (~45°).
  7. Tap the lower half of the screen. Observe that the gunlance fires a shell at a high angle instead of laterally.
  8. For the rest of the hunt, normal shelling will not fire laterally after firing at a high angle once no matter how you tap.

Expected

  1. Normal shelling should change its firing angle according to where the user tap on the screen at any time of the hunt regardless of previous shelling angle, similar to how user can adjust the lance’s thrusting angle by tapping on the lower/upper half of the screen for lateral/high thrust.

Please see attached video.
You can see which part of the screen I tapped by looking for the white dots on the right half of the screen. I placed my phone against the wall on a stable surface and then entered the training ground so that aiming angle from the gyro doesn’t change between each shelling and is the same as the default angle the game starts us with every time.

  • This issue doesn’t occur in non-gyro mode.
  • This issue is detrimental to player because high-angle shelling has a greater knockback than lateral shelling, which means players will keep getting high knockback throughout the entire hunt from the point they performed a high-angle shelling, which is unfair to players using wide shell-type gunlance due to its short shelling range and natural style of using normal shelling attack over other types of shelling attack.
  • This issue can be reproduced on Pink Rathian Gunlance, Bazelgeuse Gunlance, and Volvidon Gunlance. I believe it is not a gunlance-specific issue.
  • The only workaround in gyro mode is to avoid performing a high angle shelling, but this is not practical in an actual hunt.
  • Other types of shelling are not affected because they have different aiming mechanisms.

Another workaround is to change gyro mode (from gyro to non-gyro and then back to gyro) so that the issue will be reset, but the problem will come back once you do a high-angle shelling.
