I would like the Insect Glaive to have a system similar to mounting knockdowns or Wyvern Riding from the mainline series.
The whole reason I use the Insect Glaive in the mainline series is to go for mounting knockdowns, so not being able to do that leaves far less reason to use it.
Monsters in Monster Hunter Now have few anti-air attacks, so there’s the advantage of being able to attack one-sidedly.
In a timeframe as short as 75 seconds, triggering something like a mounting attack would be nothing but a waste of time. That said, having the monster topple just by touching it a bit to save time would also feel weird. What do you think should be done about this?
If mounting were to be implemented, I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but I wonder if adapting the mounting mechanics from the Safi’jiiva fight in the mainline series would work well? Specifically, once you mount, it transitions straight into the mount finisher weapon attack without delay. The damage itself is also reasonably high.
If the finisher’s damage were increased a bit more and the startup and recovery lag reduced slightly, that might keep the drop in DPS somewhat in check. Or maybe using an attack derived from the Clutch Claw as an alternative to the finisher could also be an option…?
That said, from the perspective of a Lance user who frequently relies on the SP jump finisher and needs to maintain Offensive Guard, I wouldn’t want to mount at an awkward time, so personally I can’t really say I’m in favor of it being implemented.
It’s been a while since I played so I’ve forgotten, but could you down them immediately?
If it takes about 2 seconds from mounting to the knockdown, that might be fine. Restraining them any longer than that feels like it would be too strong in multiplayer.
Strictly speaking, since the sequence goes mount → mysterious 1 or 2 knife stabs → weapon attack (3 hits with a Lance), it feels like it takes a little over 5 seconds on Lance, but if they got rid of the knife part and sped up the animation, I feel like it would settle into a pretty practical amount of time.
