It appears to spawn in Forest, Desert, and Volcano areas.
Its title, the Crushing Wyvern, comes from how it pummels targets with its fist-like forelegs, scattering explosive slime mould to crush anything in its way.
It frequently uses the swift sidesteps typical of Brute Wyverns, primarily attacking with boxer-like punches while also delivering headbutts with its pompadour-like crest.
The fluorescent portions on its forelegs and head consist of symbiotic slime mould, which, as mentioned, detonates shortly after being deposited on the ground.
Brachydios introduces a new status ailment called Severe Blastblight. You will be afflicted with this status if you step on slime mould on the ground or get hit by Brachydios’s slime attacks; you will take blast damage after a set period, and taking additional hits will also trigger extra blast damage.
When Brachydios becomes enraged, the slime turns from green to yellow and begins to explode immediately upon impact with its attacks, widening its attack radius. It can also infuse the ground with slime to launch long-range attacks.
Additionally, Severe Blastblight becomes more dangerous with a shorter countdown until detonation, so stay alert.
As a countermeasure, the “Blast Resistance” skill is effective.
Otherwise, you can remove it by dodging, but it requires more dodges than regular Blastblight, leading to lost time.
As a unique tactic, even though it is not its elemental weakness, attacking parts covered in slime with a Water-element weapon can remove the slime from Brachydios. Completely washing off the slime will prevent attacks from that part from inflicting Severe Blastblight.

A Brute Wyvern monster first introduced in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
When it was initially announced, it was hyped up as “the strongest flagship monster of all time.” However, because of its eccentric appearance compared to traditional monsters (rumored to be inspired by a missile), the huge impact of other features announced alongside it, and even official materials misspelling its name, it was turned into a bit of a meme with cute ASCII art before the game’s release.
Once the game launched, though, its exceptional combat prowess proved it truly lived up to the title of “strongest flagship monster of all time,” completely flipping public perception. Even today, it is frequently cited as one of the series’ toughest monsters.
Incidentally, Brachydios and the explosive slime share a symbiotic relationship: Brachydios uses the slime’s explosive power, while the slime can spread and reproduce far and wide without being destroyed by detonations.
Furthermore, Brachydios’s saliva has properties that activate the slime mould, so it licks its forelegs to prime it—meaning slime mould thrives on its tongue as well.
However, because the explosions are so potent, young Brachydios frequently sustain injuries or even die from them. Only those that endure countless blasts and develop shells that harden as they grow ever reach maturity, making an adult Brachydios living proof of an exceptionally powerful specimen.
That said, reaching adulthood does not grant complete immunity to the slime explosions, and even fully grown, particularly formidable individuals can still take damage from their own slime blasts.
