Since purchasing the Extreme Hunter Pass several days ago the palico blue paintballs have not been triggering properly. Each day has had multiple left spare, today being 5 unused despite walking a distance of 6km or more. I can understand if they may not all trigger (though I feel they ought to from that) but having 5 left feels wrong.
There were no issues with them prior to purchase, they triggered when I went out on long enough walks.
I’ve tried restarting the app and phone, all settings are correct for them to trigger (given that they functioned fine before paying for the Pass). I’ve tried with the app in the background and closed.
Is there a reason they aren’t working after the Pass I’m unaware of and causing unintentional user error? If not I feel a bit short changed by this purchase

Thank you for reporting the suspected palico marking issue.
Firstly, there are several possible reasons why the palico marking may not be working properly, aside from a issue.
Here are some common causes excerpted from the FAQ.
- If GPS usage is restricted on your device or communication line, such as power-saving mode or bandwidth limitation, your Palico may not be able to mark even if “Adventure sync” is turned on.
- If a monster is marked in a given area, it may become harder to mark monsters with Palico Paintballs in the proximity of the area, unless the monster is successfully hunted or unmarked.
Therefore, could you please try the following solutions?
- Checking GPS Restrictions or Power-Saving Mode
- Instead of walking around nearby areas, try going other areas if you can.
If the problem isn’t resolved, please let us know again.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Hi there and thanks for the reply.
I wanted to give it a few more days before responding so here is my update.
I’ve ensured all settings that could affect the GPS are working correctly still, none of them have been changed in any way that could be the source of the problem. I’ve also tried walking in some different places as well as the usual ones.
None of the last few days have had all the paintballs used and the amount used is still varying notably, sadly.
You mentioned that is a monster is marked in an area that it might make it harder for other monsters to be marked in that area and I did find that if I hunted monsters quickly that the odds of finding more in an area increased, though I find this unfortunate as I like to stockpile monsters on my regular routes so I can hunt them with my wife later.
I was unaware that there was a proximity conflict however and, even though it hasn’t fixed the problem, I appreciate the knowledge and wish this was clarified in the game somewhere - I don’t recall seeing it anywhere.
Are there any other rules that govern how the palico paintballs are used? Minimum distance, internal timers, etc. that I may be unaware of that could be the source of the problem? It’d be very helpful to know how they work in detail such as knowing about the proximity area.
Thank you for your help so far and any further assistance!

However, I will share your report with the development team.
